Promoting Exclusive Breastfeeding Session:

The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics successfully organized a critical session on "Promoting exclusive breastfeeding – Myths, Facts, and Nutritional support" on August 19, 2025, right where it mattered most: the Gynaecology OPD & IPD at SMCH. The program, which involved 2 faculty members and 20 BSc students under their supervision, was designed to boost mother and baby health by tackling the lack of awareness around correct feeding and complementary food practices. Students provided vital, evidence-based guidance through two main sessions: one covering the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, correct positioning, and tackling common challenges, and another detailing the when and how of starting complementary feeding after six months. The interactive sessions—featuring student-prepared posters and slogans—were extremely well-received, effectively clearing mothers' myths and wrong beliefs, promoting the adoption of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and giving practical dietary tips to support healthy milk production. Given the clear success, the department plans to take similar awareness sessions to community health centers and rural areas in the future.
